Description

You will be responsible for accelerating growth in the Japan market. You will drive sales and business development efforts, delivering against 2013-2015 operating goals in Japan and will be well-compensated for exceeding these goals. You will report to Opower’s Managing Director, Asia-Pacific & Japan.
You will lead the sales strategy for expanding the Opower business in Japan, building on Opower’s existing relationships and sales activities. As part of sales efforts, you will analyze industry developments, build deep relationships with targeted Japanese electric & gas utilities, rally the Opower organization behind sales opportunities, and ultimately deliver on multi-million dollar deals.
Given the continued impacts of the Fukushima disaster on the Japanese utility sector, and the fast-moving changes that have resulted, Opower has a unique opportunity to help Japanese utilities as well as Japanese consumers. This is an once-in-a-lifetime chance to make a lasting impact in Japan while quickly building a new business.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Japanese electric and gas utility organizations to influence their vision and long term strategies around customer engagement, Smart Meter programming, energy efficiency & demand response, and competitive positioning.
  • Have an annual quota for delivering against the Japanese operating plan.
  • Work closely with Opower’s business development partners in the Japan market to accelerate sales and jointly pursue sales opportunities, when applicable
  • Refine & tailor Opower marketing materials to the needs of Japanese customers
  • Work closely with Opower Leadership, Marketing, Product, Legal, Regulatory and Operations to close business and ensure our Operations team is poised to execute and deliver on that business.
  • You will be based in Tokyo with the expectation of periodic travel to Opower’s offices in the United States as well as across Japan

About You

This is an ideal job for a true international sales and business development professional with 5-10 years of experience developing new businesses in the energy and/or software sector. You have a track record of selling and closing enterprise-level transactions. You have experience working with US-based companies exporting their solutions to Japan, and have the ability to work well across US and Japanese business cultures. Opower’s combination of an enterprise-grade SaaS solution with consumer-facing technology requires a sophisticated executive and technical understanding, along with strong intellectual curiosity.
