Description
The Abu Dhabi Waste Management Centre (ADWMC) is a key element of the Government’s goal to be a world leader in sustainable waste management and resource recovery. It is the lead agency charged with all aspects of controlling and co-ordinating the management of waste for the entire Emirate, with formulating, developing and implementing an integrated waste management strategy and with increasing the capacity of the local waste management industry.
Job Description:
The Policy, Planning & Education Department (PPED) will act as the focal point for co-ordinating all waste management activities within the Emirate, and as an acknowledged resource centre and a centre of excellence for consultation in waste management in the wider Gulf Region and MENA (Middle East-North Africa) region. The PPED will initiate best practice waste management principles and operations for integration into government policy, legislation, planning and other initiatives. The PPED will establish and maintain a comprehensive record of waste management in the Emirate as a basis for future planning and policy guidance. The PPED also provides the co-ordinating role in developing sector training to enhance local skills capacity and the delivery of education and awareness programmes. The target groups will be the community and industry to assist the introduction of modern integrated solid waste management systems. Manage the Policy, Planning & Education Department. The position will be responsible for developing sector initiatives in all aspects of waste strategy, waste policy and waste sector management and in developing and delivering community and industry education, including public awareness. The position will oversee the administration and the management of Divisions within the Department and all outsourced contracts under the Department’s direction
Candidate profile:
Demonstrated experience in providing high level policy advice and strategy development on waste management and sustainability issues, including the drafting of sector policies, policy papers and sector guidelines. Demonstrated knowledge in strategic planning. Thorough understanding of environmental issues and of emerging issues, legislative and policy frameworks for environmental protection. Extensive experience in leading and managing multi-disciplinary teams. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including high level advocacy, with an ability to communicate, consult and liaise across all sectors of society. Proven experience in undertaking research and developing programmes for community education, waste reduction and public awareness. Demonstrated excellent analytical and problem solving skills, including developing recommendations to improve service delivery and service standards. Demonstrated understanding of the waste management industry and issues, including data capture and manipulation, planning, environmental legislation and information, education and communication issues. Demonstrated skill and ability in leading the activities and performance of staff and managing and monitoring budgets. Formal qualifications in planning, education, economics, environmental law or similar. Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office products. At least 10 years of experience in strategic planning of the waste sector. Post-graduate qualifications in environmental management, economics, environmental law or similar.
Package:
Total remuneration: Grade 1, Abu Dhabi Government. The remuneration package includes annual salary, accommodation allowance, medical insurance and annual leave loading.
