Director of Science, Institute of Zoology

We are looking for a Chief Scientist to lead the Institute of Zoology within ZSL as an international centre of excellence in scientific research and postgraduate teaching. The purpose of the role is to undertake and promote relevant high quality zoological and conservation research to help ZSL achieve its conservation objectives and inform and influence conservation policy throughout the world. 

Reporting to the Director General of ZSL, the successful candidate will lead a team of 30 post-doctoral staff, 50 PhD students and 25 technical and support staff and must have experience of successfully leading and managing teams. This role will also require the post holder to work collegiately with colleagues throughout ZSL and play an active role within the senior management team. 

Candidates must hold a PhD/Higher degree and able to demonstrate a publications output of the highest international ranking in a relevant area of research and a proven ability to raise grant income to fund research projects.

The initial contract will be for 5 years with the possibility of extension.
