Description

Salary: circa £60,000

Based at our head office in Godalming (2 minutes walk from the station)

A unique opportunity to join the Senior Management Team of a highly influential, successful and growing international organisation, to play a pivotal role in its development and campaign on an issue of increasing wider public concern.

For over forty years Compassion in World Farming (Compassion) has been working to create a world where all farm animals are treated with compassion and respect.

Over the last few years Compassion has itself developed and expanded its approach of influencing higher farm animal welfare through traditional lobbying and campaigning activities. The campaigns programme has delivered some significant successes, such as the EU ban on barren battery cages. On key EU campaigns Compassion has often partnered with welfare groups in other countries, primarily through the Compassion led European Network for Farm Animal Protection. Political lobbying initiatives are also undertaken directly and in collaboration with other welfare groups. The Director of Public Affairs will be responsible for leading Compassion’s lobbying and campaigning worldwide. You will oversee and develop the arrangements with Compassion’s international partners, be responsible for identifying new opportunities and relationships and for representing the organisation in the media as appropriate.

Compassion is seeking a public affairs leader with a deep understanding of UK and EU political decision making processes, who is comfortable with complex policy issues and has the ability to translate these into simple messages that engage the general public. You will enjoy working in a dynamic and entrepreneurial organisation, have experience of developing robust systems and processes and have the leadership ability to inspire a small team of intelligent and passionate individuals.
