The Director of Protection is responsible for overall planning, coordination and implementation of a comprehensive program to protect natural areas and habitat for rare and endangered plants, animals and natural communities using the full range of protection tools, including gift, easement, purchase, lease registry, conservation brokerage and cooperative projects with federal, state, and local government, conservation organizations and other partners as appropriate.   The Director is responsible for implementing and achieving the Conservancy’s internal conservation priorities through overseeing and representing the Conservancy in relationships and negotiations with government agencies and advisory committees. The Director works closely with and coordinates with a wide variety of Conservancy staff, private individuals and corporations in support of conservation goals.  S/he solicits and monitors government funding for land acquisitions, assists with speaking engagements, leads donor field trips, and assists in private fund raising as necessary.  The Director is an expert in protection techniques and resources and advises the land protection staff and government partners on the application of these tools for conservation advancement.  Additionally, this position is responsible for researching land ownership information for tracts identified as potential acquisition projects, preparing project packages as appropriate, responding to protection inquiries and screening of potential protection projects.  The geographic size and scope of this position is the state of Georgia. The Director may manage staff and volunteers working toward accomplishment of state protection goals.
