ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Director of Philanthropy will be responsible for the oversight, planning and implementation of a comprehensive development program that secures significant financial resources from private individuals, foundations, and corporations within Illinois to support conservation goals around the world. Manages all major gifts functions with access to Conservancy-wide resources including the principal gifts team, donor prospecting and research, multi-year fundraising campaigns and planned giving, Works with senior staff to establish fundraising goals and is accountable for these goals. Hires, manages, and establishes fundraising goals for Associate Directors of Philanthropy and other operating unit fundraising staff.  Motivates and coordinates the efforts of a multi-disciplinary staff team and volunteers in fundraising, including donor cultivation and solicitation. Responsible for a portfolio of major gift prospects. Focuses on long-range strategic priorities, advances the Conservancy’s goals, and communicates a broad vision to others. Will serve as a member of the Illinois Senior Management Team and work closely and collaboratively with staff members whose work focuses on science, conservation and finance. Understands and complies with all TNC gift-related policies and procedures and ensures ethical compliance, as defined by the Association for Fundraising Professionals. 
Also, the Director of Philanthropy is responsible for a fundraising operating unit in a market leader state with fundraising goals of $13 million to $20 million a year.  Will develop and implement a philanthropic vision for Illinois that aligns with the core philosophy of The Nature Conservancy’s global priorities, while recognizing the distinctive needs of the Illinois landscape.
