MRCI is looking for a reliable, outgoing individual who is seeking employment in the conservation and community engagement field. The Director of Operations is responsible for making sure the MRCI camp runs smoothly and volunteers feel safe and supported during their stay with us. You will be overseeing our 5 main projects and their teams; Marine conservation, Forest conservation, Turtle conservation, English teaching and Community development, as well as any side projects or events that might come up. It is the job of the director to ensure that the projects are achieving the goals set out for them, volunteers are enjoying their time and gaining meaningful experience from their program and that MRCI is benefiting the local community in any way possible. The director is expected to immerse themselves when possible into all of the projects in order to gain a better perspective on how each is running. You will be based on our camp on the beautiful island of Nosy Komba, within the Nosy Be area of Madagascar and will have the opportunity to engage in a unique community with which MRCI has very close ties.

 

Responsibilities;

-         Overseeing the 5 main projects at MRCI; Marine conservation, Forest conservation, Turtle conservation, English teaching and Community development as well as Island Outreach

-          Ensuring volunteers feel valued and supported while they are at MRCI

-          Maintaining a positive atmosphere on camp

-          Managing staff for all areas of camp; project and local

-          Organising pick-ups for arriving volunteers and transportation and food for any outgoing trips

-          Communicating with partnering organisations about programs and volunteers

-          Carrying out emergency protocol should any accidents or emergencies occur

 

Requirements;

-          A keen interest in helping develop remote communities

-          Experience in management

-          Excellent interpersonal skills

-          Some experience in living in a remote area

-          Ability to lead a team of staff and manage volunteers

-          Some experience in working in an NGO is preferable

 

 

This is a paid position.  Terms and salary will be discussed with the successful applicant.
