Responsible for the strategic planning, implementation and evaluation of Mass Audubon‘s marketing, publications, promotion and communications programs to advance the understanding and implementation of Mass Audubon‘s mission locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. Areas of responsibility include management of public and media relations programs; budget and staff management; relevant staff training, marketing and promotions; development of internal and external communications programs and protocols, including social media; website development; management of Connections, Sanctuary magazine and other publications; cause related marketing and sponsorship programs; and liaison to the Board of Director‘s Marketing and Membership Committee.

Responsibilities:

  1. Plan, create, implement and evaluate successful public relations, communications and marketing programs within the framework of a decentralized organization with active conservation centers established in many different communities throughout the state. Develop and implement strategies consistent with Mass Audubon‘s long term and annual goals and priorities to maximize effective internal and external communication programs and protocols with the media, members, staff, Board of Directors and the general public.
  2. Develop and manage a media relations plan that includes all appropriate outlets including print, on-line and broadcast media.
  3. Manage and ensure the integrity of the Mass Audubon brand, including the appropriate use and presentation of the logo internally and within the context of partnerships. Manage state-wide sponsorships, cause-related marketing, commercial co-ventures and copy rights.
  4. Manage the staff, planning and production of Connections and Sanctuary magazine, and other publications such as the annual report, program catalogues etc. Establish overall design standards and ensure the highest quality graphic and editorial consistency and impact, cost effectiveness and appropriate distribution of publications.
  5. Work closely with other departments and divisions within Mass Audubon to provide timely and effective marketing and communications strategy and implementation input, especially:
    • the Information Technology Department to plan, present and manage an effective and content-based /promotional Mass Audubon website; and to develop appropriate electronic and social media strategies, protocols and opportunities.
    • the Development and Membership Departments to develop and support membership and fundraising and to ensure coordination of initiatives and actions.
    • the Conservation Programs Division to develop, support and evaluate the implementation of marketing and outreach strategies, especially as they relate to Mass Audubon‘s educational programs and special events, a significant source of the organization‘s revenue, membership, media and website activity.
  6. Serve as liaison to the Board Marketing and Membership Committee.
  7. Assume additional responsibilities as requested.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and at least 8 years experience, preferably including work in a decentralized and complex organization. Excellent strategic planning and management skills required, as well as strong writing, editing, production, budget management, interpersonal, organizational, social media and web-related skills. Willingness and ability to mentor and train staff in relevant areas. Must have valid driver’s license and willingness and ability to travel and work evenings and weekends. Previous experience with an environmental or conservation organization strongly preferred.
