JOB DESCRIPTION
The Director of Logistics is responsible for management of all distribution/transportation and warehousing for Solaria. As this is a position that will be responsible for world-wide logistics activity, a background in Advanced Global Logistics as well as experience with multi-national, multi-site manufacturing organizations is required. This position reports to the Senior Director of Global Supply Chain.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Develop and execute Global Logistics and Warehousing strategy.
- Build and manage global team of logistics, warehousing, and import/export personnel.
- Work closely with Contract Manufacturers, insuring understanding and adherence to Solaria logistics standards
- Through close collaboration with Sales, Customer Applications, and Production anticipate and mitigate logistics bottlenecks and stress points.
- Provide inventory management oversight, implementing Inventory Control methods capable of ensuring highly accurate and efficient inventories.
- Work with 3PL providers to optimize Solaria’s freight lanes, shipment cycle times, custom clearance cycle times, and freight duty expenses
- Negotiate supplier agreements to ensure optimized Freight Expense to Service Level balance
- Forecast Freight and Distribution expenses and develop expense models to ensure accuracy
- Drive reverse logistics process improvement
- Collaborate closely with purchasing, finance, manufacturing and product development teams to insure process and cost optimization
- Develop best-in-class Logistics and Warehousing business processes capable of ensuring consistent delivery of goods worldwide
- Analyze, recommend and deploy system-solutions to automate and integrate logistics processes across the business.
- Determine most efficient/economical rout and mode of transportation/equipment option.
- Develop appropriate measurement systems capable of assessing overall Logistics performance and customer satisfaction.
- Develop and document processes to ensure continuous improvement.
- Work closely with engineers on development of next generation product packaging.
Education:
- Bachelors Degree required, ideally in Supply Chain Management, Business or equivalent
- MBA a plus.
Experience and Qualifications:
- 10-15 years Advanced Logistics experience required
- Extensive experience with Logistics strategy development and execution for a global manufacturing and solutions company
- Knowledge and experience with advanced 3PL and warehouse management methods
- Knowledge of international customs regulations and experience with material movement across borders globally
- Experience with domestic and international shipping methods (air, ocean and land) and their suppliers, costs and risks.
- Knowledge and experience with world-class processes surrounding freight scheduling, coordination and tracking
- Strong experience with ERP and CRM systems and their use to input, manage transport and inventory, and analyze distribution and storage performance
- Ability to analyze and control freight costs across a broad range of transport and storage methods, and implement processes to continually reduce/contain costs.
- Demonstrated leadership capability in a multinational company
- Excellent Oral and Written Communication Skills required
- Hands on, working knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications, including Excel and PowerPoint
- Start-up experience is a plus
- A passion for solar is a plus
