About the Organization

ClimateWorks is a worldwide network of philanthropic and non-governmental organizations whose goal is to prevent dangerous climate change. Our objective is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30 billion metric tons per year by the year 2030, and ensure that global average temperatures do not increase by more than 2° centigrade – a threshold that most climate scientists describe as a dangerous tipping point. To achieve this objective, ClimateWorks promotes smart government policies that reduce reliance on carbon-intensive energy sources; rapidly deploy clean, efficient energy technologies and low-carbon infrastructure; and reduce the rate of deforestation in the world’s largest, most threatened tropical forests. We prioritize this work in the nations, regions, and economic sectors responsible for most greenhouse gas emissions – thus increasing our chances of success.

ClimateWorks’ unique strategy rests on three organizational pillars:

  • The ClimateWorks Foundation manages the Network, conducts in-depth policy research and economic analyses, raises needed funds, and sets funding priorities based on the most urgent challenges and largest opportunities for reducing emissions.
  • Regional Climate Foundations manage grant portfolios in priority nations, focusing on local and regional politics and campaign-style advocacy. They draw on deep, in-country political expertise and understanding of local conditions to lay the groundwork for policy victories.
  • Best Practice Networks put world-class knowledge to work in the sectors responsible for most greenhouse gas emissions. The policy analysts, technologists, and former regulators who staff Best Practice Networks are deeply embedded in the policymaking process and know how to work with decision makers to ensure policy efficacy.

This collection of organizations comprises the ClimateWorks Network, which follow a common strategy and share information and tools to increase their effectiveness.

Director of Knowledge Management

ClimateWorks is looking for a highly skilled and motivated Director of Knowledge Management to improve the flow of knowledge throughout the ClimateWorks network. The Director will be a member of the Program Team, working closely with the Program Officers, which oversee the key Network strategic topic areas, and will report to the Vice President of Programs. He/she will also work closely with the Research Team, Communications Team and Chief Information Officer.

The Director of Knowledge Management will work with the Program Team, other teams at the ClimateWorks Foundation and organizations throughout the ClimateWorks Network to identify areas where information sharing can improve effectiveness.  The Director will also be responsible for designing mechanisms for sharing this information internally and externally (e.g. with policy-makers). Information sharing mechanisms might include internet-based mechanisms, such as intranets and websites, telephone and in-person conversations, and structured documentation of important information. The knowledge management system will require a design that uses soft and hard incentives to encourage contribution and use of the system to ensure it is effective.

The Director of Knowledge Management will work with the Chief Information Officer to develop business requirements for building online tools. The Director will demonstrate exceptional online and offline networking and facilitation skills to ensure user engagement and assist other team members to ensure engagement. The Director of Knowledge Management should have in-depth experience in the design and maintenance of online knowledge management systems, proven oral and written communication skills, and good analytical skills to quickly understand research and information needs from the Network. This position will work on projects of both national and international scope.
