MassCEC is seeking an energy industry leader to manage existing (and launch new) knowledge development programs and activities.  The Knowledge Development function at MassCEC is part of the Market Development and Support Division and serves as a central clearinghouse – for internal and external constituencies – on information and resources integral to the rapid growth of Massachusetts clean energy space.  This role brings together under single management a set of activities that were previously performed by individual divisions and programs, thus the successful incumbent will bring to the job a strong collaborative and coordinating approach.  Specifically, the Director will help MassCEC identify and overcome critical knowledge gaps and barriers in the clean energy ecosystem by leveraging our deep, in-house expertise and network of expert consultants.  This role will also lead MassCEC’s efforts to monitor and analyze relevant trends in state, regional, national and international energy markets.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage MassCEC knowledge acquisition, generation and dissemination activities;
Conduct and oversee market analyses, industry reports, gap analyses, and surveys;
Collaborate with in-house experts from other divisions and departments to generate and/or commission technical reports and market studies;
Build relationships with industry thought leaders, including municipal, state and federal organizations, research institutions, for-profit and non-profit organizations;
Manage multiple outside consultants;
Attend and – where appropriate – represent MassCEC at regulatory and industry meetings, including state and federal hearings, ISO meetings and trade and industry association meetings;
Provide timely and strategic advice to senior management and program development teams on energy and technology market trends, policy developments; and
Other duties, as indicated by the Senior Director for Market Development and Support.

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors degree in a relevant field;
5+ years in energy and/or utilities space, with a strong understanding of clean energy market drivers (economic, technological and policy);
Proven ability to manage outside consultants/contractors on time and budget;
Experience collaborating across teams and divisions; and
Excellent presentation skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Advanced degree (M.S. or higher) in a relevant field;
Experience at a top-tier management or technical consulting firm, or equivalent position with an internal consulting team;
Experience working and partnering with public-sector stakeholders, including federal, state and local governments; and
Existing network of governmental, non-profit, corporate and university energy leaders.
