The Director of Human Resources is a business partner supporting the executive team and delivering on the day-to-day needs of all of the company’s Human Resource matters. The HR Director is responsible for ensuring that the company’s human capital is being appropriately developed, rewarded and retained. The Director develops all RecycleBank HR policies and programs, supervises an HR Manager and works closely with the executive team, counsel and senior management to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state laws and international laws. Areas within the Director of HR’s responsibilities include: all HR administration, talent acquisition and management, HR policy, compliance, employee relations, compensation and benefits. The Director is a hands-on generalist comfortable operating in an early stage environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Develops and implements an HR infrastructure that is aligned with the company’s culture and that is focused on developing, rewarding and retaining the company’s most valued employees.
  • Works to maintain a consistent and high performing culture across multiple offices, countries and field locations.
  • Translates strategic and tactical business plans into HR operational plans.
  • Establishes strategic recruiting and placement practices and procedures. Develops a process that is designed to have a high probability of obtaining successful candidates. Participates in the interviewing process as appropriate.
  • Establishes and monitors wage and salary structure, pay policies, performance management processes, employee benefit programs and services. Works closely with Chief Financial Officer on these endeavors.
  • Develops appropriate education and training for managers and employees, including workshops, manuals, and employee handbooks. Also makes effective use of technology to service the employee population.
  • Identifies legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting Human Resources (e.g., FLSA, ERISA, OSHA, EEO, ADA). Monitors exposure of the company. Directs the preparation of information requested or required for compliance. Approves all information submitted. Acts as primary contact with employment counsel and outside government agencies.
  • Determines and recommends employee relations practices necessary to establish a positive employer-employee relationship and promote a high level of employee morale. Protects RecycleBank and employees’ interests in accordance with Human Resources policies and governmental laws and regulations.
  • Keeps executive team informed of significant problems that jeopardize the achievement of objectives, and those which are not being addressed adequately. Stays abreast of human resource issues.
  • Manages, coaches and develops HR staff.
  • Monitors all Human Resources policies, programs, and practices.
  • Manages or participates in the management of vendor/consultant relationships, including benefit and HR consultants, insurance brokers and carriers, training specialists, and employment counsel, contingency and retained search providers.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of human resource administration, sound techniques in all aspects of HR management including compensation and benefits, as well as federal and state employment regulations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with the executive team, senior management, employees and outside vendors and consultants.
  • Adapts well to change.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to employee groups and all levels of management.
  • Ability to coach, manage and develop talent.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, HRIS systems.
  • Familiarity with UK employment practices.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree, MBA or Masters degree in Human Resources desired.
  • Minimum 8 years of HR and industry-related experience.
  • Previous experience with multi-site, multi-state, multi-functional organizations.
  • Experience in Digital or Media environments a plus.
  • Previous experience in start-up or venture-backed company environments.
  • SPHR a plus..
