Ducks Unlimited, Inc., the world leader in wetlands and waterfowl habitat conservation is seeking a Director of Governmental Affairs to provide strategic leadership in our public policy efforts in Washington, DC, lead an accomplished team of public policy professionals’ nation wide, and serve as a member of DU’s senior executive team.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Plans, directs and oversees activities to carry out policies relating to all phases of government relations in DU’s conservation efforts.
  • Remains informed on local, regional, and national affairs, policies, and legislation in order to analyze its impact on the organization.
  • Studies and provides analysis on proposed legislation and regulations for possible impact and effect on the organization and advises on and coordinates the formation of the organization's position on such proposals.
  • Plans and conducts public policy conservation campaigns under the direction of the Chief Conservation Officer, toward attaining organizational goals.
  • Develops and coordinates internal and external policies and directives to ensure organizational compliance with governmental laws and regulations.
  • Develops strategies and programs necessary for governmental approval of DU’s conservation efforts and assures that DU is aware of government legislation that affects its operations.
  • Establishes company positions on federal regulations and communicates positions internally and externally.
  • Serves as the primary Public Policy spokesperson for DU.
  • Relates directly to numerous state and federal agencies and NGO’s, including DU, associated with conservation.

This position will be located in the Ducks Unlimited Washington DC office, 1301 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Suite 402 and will be responsible for the management of six professional employees.

 

 

 

Qualifications

Must have substantial experience (15+ years) and advanced training (M.S. / equivalent or greater) in a particular area of conservation. Candidate should have solid organizational skills, be excellent at oral and written communication, be willing to empower and motivate staff and volunteers, have demonstrated collaborative, decision-making capabilities, and be ready to work with a broad diversity of partners. Candidate must have knowledge of wetlands and waterfowl conservation. Extensive travel required.
