Description:
This position is a terrific opportunity to break new ground and establish a new function within our company. While McDonald's has had a heritage of environmental initiatives, this position will lead a newly developed, robust environmental strategy and help lead McDonald's to new heights in environmental leadership. We are seeking someone who has passion to make a big difference and be part of developing big actions.

The Director of Environmental Sustainability will be primarily responsible for implementing the U.S. environmental sustainability strategy and framework and representing the company externally.

This role serves as the subject matter expert for the environmental framework and its application; leads the cross-functional team to create actions plans to address environmental priorities; and engages with the McDonald's System (company, franchisees and suppliers) to drive awareness and actions.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Champion guiding principles and serve as a trusted advisor to the System in prioritizing sustainability issues and identifying solutions and initiatives.
  • Work with internal subject matter experts and departments to develop actions plans, measures and accountabilities.
  • Oversee execution of the plan, ensuring alignment with strategy and business, tracking and reporting progress, and monitor for new innovation.
  • Identify and participate in key conferences and networking opportunities.
  • Participate in speaking opportunities to share our work and progress.
  • Develop and manage all resources to support sustainability programs as needed (e.g., budget, agency support, team support, etc.).

    Experience:
    Minimum requirements for position:

  • B.S. in environment, science or business-related field required.
  • Minimum of 8 years experience, including either company or NGO experience in sustainability-related field.
  • MBA preferred, with studies in sustainability/environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of environmental issues.
  • Proven ability to develop strong relationships and collaborate, partner and act as a valued team member, both with internal and external stakeholders.
