The E&D Compliance and Safety Team has an immediate opening for an experienced Director of Environmental, SEA and Sustainability who will be responsible for leading and managing a talented team that provides comprehensive guidance worldwide on Environmental and Sustainability issues related to Microsoft's PC Hardware, Zune, Surface and Xbox 360 product lines in the Entertainment and Devices Division (E&D). The position would also entail driving greater Supply Chain Social and Environmental Accountability (SEA) into the hardware and packaging supply chains.
Are you ready to join a dedicated compliance engineering organization in one of the world's best software, consumer electronics and entertainment companies? Help define and drive internal compliance and sustainability best practices through the entire product and packaging life cycle including design, use of raw materials, manufacturing and packaging disposal. This position will report to the Sr. Director of Compliance and Safety and is based in Redmond, WA.

The purpose of this position is to develop, implement and drive E&D's environmental compliance management system and co-ordinate and promote Microsoft's Environmental Principles within E&D. This position is critical to Microsoft E&D establishing a national and international reputation for its global compliance and sustainability strategy.

Responsibilities
· Implementation of programs, operating controls and procedures with the intent to manage and reduce Microsoft's significant environmental compliance and SEA risks.
· Promotion of sustainable and practical solutions to environmental aspects of operations and business divisions.
· Management of a team of experienced environmental and SEA compliance experts.
· Coordination of a wide range of Microsoft knowledge and talent in order to address environmental and sustainability issues.
· Continual improvement of environmental and SEA performance through proactive managment and self-assessments and/or third-party assessments.
· Prevention of pollution at its source through implementation of best management practices and resource conservation measures to reuse, reclaim, and recycle generated waste.
· Utilization of ISO 14001 and sustainability accounting systems, as appropriate for our operations, to provide a framework for systematically reviewing our environmental footprint.
· Motivation of Microsoft employees to practice environmental and sustainability best management practices by raising awareness of related issues through policies and procedures, training, and interactive dialogue.
· Outreach to the citizens and businesses of our global community by communication of Microsoft's Environmental Principles and the importance of environmental stewardship and sustainable development for E&D.
· Advisement of E&D management on matters relating to the environment and sustainability
· Function as an environmental specialist on sustainability matters and liaise with Corporate Environmental Sustainability team.
Qualifications
· At least ten years of relevant job experience in consumer electronics.
· Experience in implementing RoHS, REACH, WEEE, and Proposition 65 compliance and monitoring programs.
· Experience in compliance integration in product design and manufacturing environments.
· Experience in the successful implementation and management of environmental management systems to the ISO14001 and other applicable standards.
· Ability to design and deliver environmental and SEA compliance and awareness training and manage third party environmental management system auditing services.
· Ability to deliver wider sustainability and corporate responsibility counseling.
· Track record of being an enthusiastic and effective team player and manager of highly qualified professionals with experience of leading and influencing internal and external resources to ensure successful outcomes.
· Very strong written and verbal communication skills.
· Substantial project management experience.
· Masters degree or higher in Engineering, Environmental Science or other related subject together with a good understanding of IT and consumer electronics industries.
