My client is a leading solar power plant developer, providing clean energy to utilities and large energy users. They build, develop, finance and operate  large scale power plants and have a strong market presence globally.

With subsidiaries in the US, Europe and Southeast Asia are continuously looking to grow and maintain their position as a market leader. They are now looking to recruit a Director of their Engineering & Construction operation.


Position Overview:

My client seek an energetic leader with a track record in managing cross-functional teams to construct solar PV power plants throughout the North America. The Director of Engineering & Construction will manage existing projects in the construction phase. They will provide contract oversight for the Engineering & Construction for multi megawatt solar power plants throughout the US. The Director of Engineering & Construction will lead a construction team and will plan, direct, and coordinate construction of solar projects.

Responsibilities:-

  • ·         Manage the construction team responsible for the construction of large-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) projects
  • ·         Negotiate EPC contracts for multi-megawatt solar PV plants
  • ·         Manage and negotiate long-term contracts with partners, vendors, Legal teams and customers
  • ·         Manage the procurement process for all contracts including tender process, contract negotiations through to financial close of each project
  • ·         Manage all stages of the construction of projects from receipt of planning permission to hand over to Operations including procurement for all major contracts
  • ·         Prepare and manage budget forecasts and vision for long term operations and maintenance (O&M) planning
  • ·         Ensure compliance with requirements of all commercial contracts
  • ·         Negotiation and acquisition of lease agreements; securing grid connections and building permits
  • ·         Liaise with finance, banks, development, legal advisors and engineering advisors
  • ·         Liaise with landowners and local councils in relation to pre-construction and construction activities
  • Due Diligence relating to specific projects, potential contractors and new projects
  • Participating in the draw up of bid documents and contracts
  • Evaluating and selecting offers from contractors
  • Develop and review project schedules, cost estimates, bill of materials, budgets, scopes of work, standards and quotes from suppliers and installers
  • Supervise project implementation to ensure cost, time, quality and execution guidelines according to schedule
  • Planning and organizing of projects
  • Full responsibility of the commercial, technical and organisational interests on site
  • Supervise and oversee all technical matters

Education:-

  • ·         Strong educational background, undergraduate degree in engineering (electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, environmental engineering, construction management) field and background in construction is desired.

Core Requirements:-

  • ·         Minimum 5 years experience solar experience, with a proven track record in the construction of large-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) projects
  • ·         At least 5-10 years of related work experience in construction management
  • ·         Strong leadership qualities
  • ·         Excellent commercial experience
  • ·         Project and time management skills
  • ·         Must have repeated success negotiating PPAs with utilities
  • ·         Needs to understand permitting, site acquisition, interconnection, project management, deal negotiation, financial modeling of renewable deals etc.
  • ·         Deep experience in solar construction and project management
  • ·         Understanding of solar project engineering and construction
  • ·         Understanding of cost estimating and budgeting for solar projects

General Requirements:-

  • Ability to travel frequently to client sites
  • ·         Good oral and written communications skills  
  • ·         Ability to manage multiple projects in an environment of constantly changing priorities
  • ·         Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently but within tightly controlled business policies

Key Skills:-

Solar PV, solar project engineering and construction,  experience with EPC and O&M contracts, team leadership,  complex stakeholder and customer management experience and Strong educational background, undergraduate degree in engineering (electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, environmental engineering, construction management) field and background in construction is desired.
