The Bald Head Island Conservancy an independent 501(c)3 environmental non-profit seeks a Director of Education to lead the education portion of the Conservancy’s mission of: Barrier Island Conservation, Education and Preservation. The Director of Education (DOE) oversees and provides for diverse program activities for the Conservancy, and its subsidiary corporation, The Smith Island Land Trust. The DOE is responsible for providing quality educational opportunities for those who reside on or visit Bald Head Island, and for outreach programs regionally and through digital outlets. The DOE is responsible for a staff of one, in addition to hiring and supervising summer interns.  Administrative responsibilities include budgeting, strategic planning and participating in Board meetings.  As the BHI Conservancy’s lead educator, the DOE is often required to extend work week hours to include late, early, and weekend educational programming. This is particularly acute during the summer months. The Director will connect with the community, be flexible in job duties while meeting the broader needs of the organization in addition to the specific requirements of the position.

Qualifications:  The DOE should have masters in environmental, earth, or education or a minimum of 8 years experience teaching in the classroom or in a non-traditional setting. 

Compensation:  This positions salary range is between 38,000 and 42,000 depending upon qualifications.

Location:  The position requires daily ferry commute to Bald Head Island located 30 miles South of Wilmington North Carolina.  In addition, is a golf-cart commute to the Eastern end of the island to the BHI Conservancy campus.
