The post of Director of Development is a new one, and its creation is part of our strategy to significantly increase our funding base to enable us to maximise our impact.

We are looking for an experienced fundraiser with a proven ability to operate among the highest level of donors. Financial targets will be subject to negotiation with the successful candidate, though we anticipate these would quickly rise to annual income from fundraising exceeding £1 million.

The primary objective of the post is to increase income from wealthy philanthropists, charitable trusts and foundations. The Director will input on all CDP’s philanthropic (foundations, trusts and individuals) fundraising strategy and activity across the globe, and will be personally responsible for securing a substantial proportion of the income raised.

As a senior member of the team based in CDP’s London headquarters you will also contribute to the charity’s wider operations and development, and liaise closely with those responsible for securing funding from corporate and statutory sources.

Main responsibilities

  • Developing and deliver against a philanthropic fundraising strategy for CDP, and overseeing its implementation
  • Securing grants and donations from individuals and foundations towards CDP’s strategic objectives
  • Developing a global development board and recruiting and managing relationships with senior fundraising volunteers
  • Ensuring donors are appropriately thanked and reported to
  • Identifying and monitoring key performance indicators for fundraising
  • Briefing and providing advice and support to non-fundraising staff
  • Ensuring accurate records are maintained for all interactions with donors, volunteers and other senior CDP contacts
  • Ensuring that full and accurate records of all gifts and pledges are maintained, and working with the Finance Director to ensure that gifts are used for the purposes agreed with the donor
  • Liaising with colleagues responsible for fundraising from companies and statutory sources
  • Contributing to any other activities undertaken by CDP.

The successful candidate will work 5 days per week and must be able to work legally in the UK.

Benefits: Competitive NGO salary, annual bonus, 24 days holiday, non contributory pension provision after 3 months employment.

Interested candidates should send a copy of their CV with a cover letter outlining their suitability for the role to Roy Wilson at recruitment@cdproject.net with ‘Director of Development’ in subject line.

Deadline for submissions: 31 January 2011
