Description

The Director of Conservation Programs:
• Works with MS conservation and science staff to develop annual work plans and budgets to support conservation strategies including cross-boundary projects which support the MS OU Strategic Plan and the North American Region Conservation Priorities; Accelerating Land Conservation, Transforming Ocean Management, Restoring Freshwater Systems, Improving Forest Health, U.S. Climate Policy and the Gulf of Mexico
• Participates on division and region initiatives, working groups, etc. that are relevant to MS’s conservation priorities/ projects and reflective of the individual’s experiences and expertise.
• Work with the Director of Philanthropy and conservation staff to acquire public and private fundraising to support conservation priorities, including participating in and leading field trips for major supporters. Seek creative public and private funding mechanisms for conservation projects
• Establishes the Conservancy as a major conservation leader/partner within Mississippi
• Works with conservation program managers and OU leadership to define conservation priorities
• Develops and implements internal OU policies and procedures to insure compliance with organization-wide P&Ps
• Design/develop and directs conservation activities to ensure that priority portfolio sites identified in Ecoregional Plans are fully protected
• Coordinates activities across the program to avoid duplication of effort, achieve maximum results with available resources and consolidate efforts as appropriate
• Builds strategic, scientific and technical capacity to accomplish conservation priorities. This will involve the hiring, training and supervision of staff, contractors and volunteers as needed
• Develops partnerships with key public/ private agencies/organizations and private landowners to conserve and protect priority portfolio sites
• Develops and implement strategies to address public land management initiatives and programs
• Works closely with State Director to develop and implement conservation friendly state and federal policies/programs, including interacting with state and federal delegations
• Works with State Director to assure that the Trustees are well informed on the Chapter’s conservation programs and activities including serving as the primary staff liaison to the Conservation Committee of the Board
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor
