Duties, Responsibilities, Remuneration

Requirements

 

Director, Conservation & Science

The position is based at ICS head office, Pte Larue, Mahé. The successful candidate will report to the CEO and be:

  • Responsible for the design and implementation of the conservation & scientific programmes of (i) the Aride Island Special Reserve (AISR) and (ii) of the environmental conservation foundations (the Foundations) managed by ICS on the inner and outer islands.  
  • Responsible for preparing and executing annual plans, directing the work of conservation staff and overseeing the management of conservation centres on the AISR, and inner and outer islands.
  • Responsible for coordinating and preparation of the monthly, quarterly and annual reports for AISR and the Foundations.
  • Responsible for planning and executing approved scientific and conservation projects entrusted to ICS by government or government bodies, national and international conservation institutions, funding agencies, institutions of tertiary education and the like. 
  • Required to represent ICS at relevant forums as necessary or as directed.

Term of Contract of Employment- two years, renewable.

Salary package – The position attracts a gross salary, depending on qualifications and experience – of not less than of R420,000 per annum (R35,000) gross per month), plus annual salary reviews subject to statutory deductions for personal income tax and pension (if applicable).

 

Minimum - University postgraduate degree in the biological, conservation and environmental sciences and management or closely related field with considerable relevant field working experience.

Preferred – The above plus proven experience in the study of the ecology of fauna and fauna in island ecosystems.

Collaborative team worker, with the ability to build effective working relationships.

Proven ability in progressing multiple tasks alongside each other, and the flexibility to respond effectively to changing demands and priorities.

Ability to assess priorities, organise work-loads without supervision and initiate action and resolve problems where appropriate.

 

Desirable- Certification and experience as an open water scuba diver.

Science Officer (Projects)

The position is based at ICS head office. The successful candidate will report to and assist the Director of Conservation and Science with (i) the planning and oversight over the day-to-day implementation of conservation and science projects/programs of ICS and (ii) the management of conservation, science and related database.

Term of Contract of Employment- two years, renewable.15

Salary package – The gross salary of the post will depend on the qualifications and experience but will not less than R234,000 p.a. (R19,500 gross per month), plus annual salary increases subject to statutory deductions for personal income tax and pension (if applicable).  

 

Minimum - Undergraduate degree in the biological, conservation and environmental sciences and management or closely related field with at least 2 years’ relevant experience.

Desirable - Good verbal, written, communication and presentation skills.

Demonstrable skills and oversight of grant-funded projects and project management.

Open water scuba diver certification
