The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) is seeking a highly motivated and well-networked individual to lead the South American operations of the world’s leading climate change charity.
CDP has been working in Brazil since 2006 and extended into Mexico, Chile, Peru & Argentina in 2008. In 2011, 62 South American investors are signatories to CDP, Brazil has one of CDP’s highest response rates globally and a growing response rate & network of partners across the region. Six corporations are members of the CDP Supply Chain and on their behalf we are engaging with the third largest number of suppliers. We look forward to extending CDP Water Disclosure and CDP Cities in future years.
Main responsibilities
Applicants will be responsible for:
- growing the Carbon Disclosure Project’s influence and effectiveness in South America
- managing the delivery of all existing CDP programs in South America and working with CDP centrally to agree the role out of new programs and initiatives over time
- managing and growing the South America team with an initial permanent office base in Sao Paulo, Brazil and future locations to be decided
- maintaining and leveraging relationships with current CDP sponsors, partners, funders and other key stakeholders
- developing robust strategic new partnerships with government agencies, accounting bodies, data providers, exchanges, leading investors, corporations, foundations and academic institutes
- working closely with CDP’s signatory investors to improve the quality and use of data reported to CDP
- working closely with South American companies to drive carbon accounting and management high up the corporate agenda
- leading projects in collaboration with South American government bodies to improve disclosure by corporations and action on disclosure by investors.
Requirements
The successful candidate will have:
- a clear understanding of the aims, objectives and processes of the Carbon Disclosure Project
- a passionate desire to drive forward the mission of the Carbon Disclosure Project in the South American region
- strong leadership skills
- excellent and proven public speaking skills
- 10 years experience in either the investor, corporate or non-profit sectors
- at least 5 years managerial expertise and experience in recruiting a team
- strong organisational and project management skills
- ability to multi-task and take the initiative at all times
- extensive knowledge of climate change from a business and investor perspective
- excellent awareness of South American policy developments on climate change and their implications for business
- sound understanding of global policy action on climate change and how the South American region fits in with the current efforts towards a post 2012 global agreement on climate change
- experience within a global organisation preferable
The successful candidate will work 5 days per week with occasional weekend or evening work where necessary. The position is based in Sao Paulo, Brazil and it is expected there will be substantial travel around South America.
