The Director of Business Development leads new opportunity development, with an emphasis on government resources, and ensures that revenue goals are met across ISC programs. The position is responsible for intelligence-gathering, opportunity analysis, and proposal development of the highest quality. In coordination with ISC’s program team, the position supports the successful development of innovative and high-impact programs consistent with ISC’s strategic direction.
Responsibilities
- Prepare annual business development plan that meets revenue and performance targets, and supports the realization of program strategies.
- Direct and coordinate donor intelligence-gathering, opportunity analysis, and pre-proposal preparation to position ISC for winning proposals.
- Lead proposal development process from USG and other government donors; manage cross-institutional teams to support project design and ensure highest quality proposal submissions.
- Network with key stakeholders (donor, partner organizations, etc.) to leverage funding opportunities consistent with program goals.
- Cultivate and recruit global network of external experts and potential staff to support assessment, design, proposal writing, and project leadership.
- Ensure smooth operation of business development activities: oversee budget, systems, training, and staff needed to achieve business development strategy.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated experience in writing winning proposals for key international and domestic donors.
- Ability to independently manage multiple priorities and provide effective leadership of teams across functional areas.
- Exemplary written and oral communication skills.
- Detail oriented and excellent organizational skills; ability to consistently meet deadlines.
- Flexibility; ability make creative use of limited resources to accomplish goals.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to ISC’s mission.
Working Conditions
Open office environment, some domestic and international travel required.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of proven, measurable success in international and domestic program development and fundraising. Other significant professional experience in related field.
- Bachelors degree in relevant field; masters preferred.
- Demonstrated success developing business opportunities with USG agencies (especially USAID), and other international donors.
- Track record of success in growing programming through high quality proposal submissions.
- Ability to travel.
