Director, Global Public Partnerships

Location: United States- Arlington, VA Headquarters
Job Code: 402
# of openings: 1

Description

Conservation International’s (CI) Global Public Partnerships (GPP) team works to increase and diversify the amount of support by public donors to CI’s programs and its partners. Global Public Partnerships’ two-pronged approach focuses on developing long-term partnerships with key donors and providing support to CI field programs accessing public funding. Working on projects with public donors also serves to build CI’s relationships with and understanding of program and policy trends among influential institutions. GPP ‘s engagement thus extends to development assistance policy as it affects climate change, biodiversity, conservation and other CI program areas. GPP supports CI policy units and senior management in creating advocacy for increased funding for programs that benefit conservation.

As a Director for Global Public Partnerships (GPP), s/he is responsible for supporting overall partnership development and outreach to bilateral and multilateral institutions for new “special initiatives.”  Special initiatives are CI’s key priorities that are well aligned with the biodiversity and sustainable development agenda and CI’s capacity to deliver through its field programs. They can  include field project implementation, advancing science and ensuring policy relevant messages are formulated and communicated around major topics such as Ecosystem based adaptation, green economic development, REDD+, fresh water or valuation of our natural capital. Presenting such initiatives to our bilateral and multilateral partners will require a sound understanding of the issues, CI strategy and their relevance for the overseas assistance agendas of these partners. S/he will represent GPP at a high level within the international conservation and development community at strategic meetings.

The Director is also responsible for leading development and implementation of fundraising strategies for new “special initiatives” to benefit high-priority institutional objectives. As such s/he will work with designated staff in Asia/Australia and lead management of relationships through day-to-day stewardship, and through regular contact on strategic, financial and programmatic issues with senior-level counterparts.

S/he is responsible for donor reporting and works with the department head to integrate departmental goals and outcomes into divisional and institutional planning processes.
