The Director, Field Management, as part of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority's senior management team, provides coordinated development and implementation of a joint field management program for the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area (GBRWHA) on behalf of the Australian and Queensland Government.

The Field Management Program is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland governments.  The Program and the Field Management Coordination Unit (FMCU) include personnel from the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority and the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service.

The program's strategic outcome is to protect the integrity of the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage area through field based compliance with fishing zones, protection of vulnerable species, provision of visitor facilities and Indigenous co-management activities.
