We are seeking an executive professional to join our team working to protect the Marine Park whilst enabling a range of user experiences through the Authority’s Permission System.  The position leads a team in assessing and making decisions on applications for Marine Park permissions, undertaking permissions compliance activities including auditing the environmental management charge and development of business systems to support the effective and efficient implementation of the permission system.


Additionally, the team and this position is also responsible for managing Memoranda of Understanding with the Department of Defence and the Queensland Ports Association. This position also coordinate advice to the Department of the Environment and Energy when referred activities under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 may impact upon the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park matter of national environmental significance.


The position provides high level support and technical advice to the Authority’s Executive Management Group and is a member of the Senior Management Team.

Duties

  1. Lead a multi-disciplinary team in a dynamic environment to deliver high quality outcomes, meet deadlines and achieve organisational goals.
  2. Lead the development and maintenance of a forward looking and contemporary risk-based Marine Park permissions system that supports the protection and effective management of the Marine Park while enabling ecologically sustainable use.
  3. Provide management advice (including Branch, Authority Executive, MPA Board and the Minister) through high quality briefs, reports and submissions.
  4. Develop and maintain relationships including working collaboratively and persuasively with stakeholders, ministerial officers, Authority Executive and other federal government and state agencies.


Eligibility requirements and qualifications


Applicants must:

  1. be Australian citizens to be eligible for engagement,
  2. be able to obtain and maintain a NEGATIVE VETTING 1 security clearance; failure to do so will result in termination of employment.


Highly Desirable

  • Have substantial experience in leadership and managing a diverse team with competing priorities and complexity.
  • Have the ability to travel, sometimes for multiple nights.
