Description

Amongst others, the successful applicant will be expected to perform the following duties

  • Provide leadership, management and supervision of the facilities management, estate management and fleet management teams in line with organisational policies.
  • Develop and administer annual departmental budget.
  • Manage both Engineering, Waste Management, Hygiene and Waste Recycling, as well as Horticultural Contracts and Services functions.
  • Provide guidance and assistance with implementation and facilitation of key infrastructure development projects.
  • Oversee proper maintenance of NZG infrastructure (as well as the whole Institute), assets, animal enclosures, landscape, and all fleet and horticultural equipment, including the nursery.
  • Be responsible for the design and maintenance of landscape, and management of design of NZG surveying activities such as estate plans and drawings.
  • Ensure compliance to relevant legislation and policy requirements.
  • Develop relationship with stakeholders, contractors, consultants and government agencies.

Minimum requirements

  • Sc. (Hons)(Engineering)/ B. Engineering (Hons) or any relevant NQF Level 8 qualification in Civil/Structural/Construction Engineering or Architecture.
  • Project Management certificate, preferably in Construction.
  • Registration with a professional body (eg. Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA), South African Council for the Project and Constructional Management Profession (SACPCMP) etc.
  • Valid driver’s licence
  • Ten (10) years’ experience in horticulture and/or facilities management and/or construction site management and/or capital project management and/or maintenance of diverse and technically demanding facilities and project implementation. Five (5) years’ experience must be in a middle management position.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in managing contracts, contractors, sub-contracts, suppliers, legislative compliance and documentation.
  • Knowledge of facilities and landscape design, maintenance processes, fleet management procedures, nursery management, hygiene and waste management plus operational outputs.
  • Knowledge and experience of the application of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
