The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation’s largest animal advocacy organization, is seeking a Director for the Doris Day Horse Rescue and Adoption Center (DDHRAC).  The main responsibility of this position is to manage the operations and fiscal activities of the center and assist in development of strategic plans and standardized business practices.  Other duties include, but are not limited to: enhance visibility and outreach through promotion of the center; prepare and monitor budgets and provide direction on programs and facilities; develop and implement policies, procedures, and protocols for equine rescue, training, and adoptions; supervise and/or delegate duties of facility management; maintenance of assets and procurement of supplies and materials; maintenance of licenses and permits; insure operational compliance with all regulatory agencies; supervise full and part-time employees as well as volunteers; develop business partners and build relationships with major donors, foundations, constituents, and the public at large. A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent plus five years of fund raising experience in a not-for-profit environment and hands-on equine management experience highly desired.  Must be familiar with equine training methods that follow the concepts of natural horsemanship.  Commitment to the goals and programs of the HSUS along with the highest quality humane animal care and equine handling skills preferred.  Excellent interpersonal and animal observation skills also preferred.  Must have or be willing to obtain and maintain an up-to-date rabies prophylaxis and titer; work outdoors in variable and sometimes extreme weather conditions and with a variety of animals; perform occasional long workdays and maintain focus, accuracy and physical activities required by job.
