Position: Director Conservation Operations
Reports to: Senior Vice President, Global Conservation Program
This position will oversee operations for the Global Conservation Program of the Wildlife Conservation Society. The primary objective is to provide management leadership, direction and coordination with other Divisions, Departments, and initiatives that support the efficient operation of the Global Conservation Program across its field and New York-based activities. The position is based at the WCS headquarters at the Bronx Zoo in New York City.
Position Objectives:
In consultation with senior management across WCS the incumbent will:
Establish and strengthen management systems both in New York and the Field.
- Oversee and coordinate the Global administrative support team that supports globally dispersed programmatic activities in the following ways: (a) financial planning and budget systems; (b) technology development; (c) legal support; (d) human resources support especially for national staff systems; (e) purchasing systems; (f) development support. People involved in these administrative initiatives will coordinate with the incumbent but report out to their respective administrative units.
- The incumbent will be responsible for coordinating with institutional departments responsible for financial planning and budgets and with those mission divisions working outside of the Living Institutions to oversee development and management of the annual budgets and implementation plans.
- Work with the technology team to develop technology best practices and establish telecommunication systems for the Species, Landscape and Global Issues programs.
- Work with the Development team to establish more effective systems for fund raising
- Work with the Legal team to register and ensure compliance of our field programs.
- Develop and implement management reviews of GCP programs to assess management effectiveness..
- When appropriate, represent WCS with partner institutions and across the conservation community as a whole.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage activities related to budget planning and management, and development and implementation of management policies and procedures.
- Supervise administrative and operations group that supports many Global Conservation programs
- Establish and implement efficient and sensible structures in support of the One WCS transformation. Coordinate with support divisions including Human Resources, Budget and Finance, Office of the General Counsel, Development, and Public Affairs, and IT.
- Lead and/or participate in and represent, as needed, Global Program in special projects such as WCS-wide Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP) project, AD-Hoc Strategic Planning committees, or management reviews of key processes.
- Participate in the creation of effective and standardized emergency preparedness and evacuation plans for field programs.
- In coordination with WCS Human Resources, review and, as necessary, streamline international compensation plan, including benefits programs.
- Coordinate activities with staff in other mission divisions.
- Oversee and contribute to the general administration, financial management, and daily administrative operations of the Office of the Senior Vice President.
- Oversee and direct special projects and initiatives, such as Program Management Assessments related to the efficient management and operation of the Global Conservation Program, as needed.
- Represent the Global Conservation Program as requested by the SVP at professional meetings and conferences, inside and outside WCS.
