Description

The Institute for Sustainable Communities (ISC) seeks a Program Director to lead the successful design and implementation of US government and other donor-funded programs to help US cities and towns effectively develop and implement community improvement plans related to energy efficiency, green jobs creation, and sustainable community development. As part of ISC’s growing climate and environment portfolio, the position will work closely with the donor agency and regional nonprofit partners to design and deliver training workshops, facilitate mentoring relationships among energy efficiency practitioners from more- and less-experienced cities, develop and manage web-based learning tools, and provide one-on-one technical assistance to cities.

Ideal candidates will have senior-level program management, community planning and development, and training experience as well as technical expertise in municipal energy efficiency practices. The Program Director will manage a small program team, oversee consulting contracts, manage ISC’s relationships with its regional project partners and be ISC’s main point of contact with the donor(s). The position may be located in Montpelier, VT or Washington, D.C., and will report to ISC’s Director of Climate & Environmental Programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field – Master’s Degree preferred;
  • At least five years of senior program management experience – preferably managing government funded programs;
  • Experience developing and managing municipal energy efficiency plans and projects;
  • Expertise in energy efficiency practices: buildings, public facilities, transportation, etc.
  • Strong supervisory experience, demonstrated integrity, diplomacy, team-oriented management style, and commitment to develop and maintain collaborative, team relationships in a fast-paced work environment;
  • Ability to develop and sustain close relationships with program partner organizations, including local and federal government agencies and NGOs;
  • Experience in developing detailed work plans, monitoring and evaluation of program results, preparing regular program reports and documentation, and contact management;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including email and spreadsheets.

Compensation and Benefits

Position available pending funding. Salary will be commensurate with skills and experience.
