We are seeking an outstanding leader and experienced manager for NRDC’s China Sustainable Cities Project (the project). The incumbent will be based in NRDC’s Beijing office and be a member of the China Program. He or she will direct a team of 3-4 members plus short-term consultants and fellows to proactively promote sustainable urban development policies and practices in China. The project will collaborate and coordinate closely with other projects and programs of NRDC on energy and climate issues. This position is supervised by the China Country Director and receives guidance from the China Program Director.
Main Responsibilities
- Lead the China Sustainable Cities Project with bold and sound visions, effective strategies, concrete implementation, strong partnership building, and skillful team management. The project currently consists of green building and smart growth initiatives, but may extend to other relevant urban issues;
- Supervise a team of 3-4 members plus short-term consultants and fellows;
- Seek and develop strategic opportunities for advocacy and/or directly helping China to adopt sustainable urban development policies and best practices;
- Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with Chinese and international organizations for advancing the goals of NRDC, the China Program and the project;
- Fundraise for the project, including writing grant proposals and progress reports;
- Prepare and manage the project’s budget;
- Organize and prepare communication materials related to the project, in English and Chinese as necessary;
- Organize and conduct relevant policy and technical research to support project implementation and/or communication;
- As a member of the China Program leadership team, contribute to overall program strategy development, priority setting, cross-project/program collaboration and coordination, strategic partnership building, and new opportunity identification;
- Represent NRDC at conferences and other events relevant to the project’s work.
- Advanced degree(s) in relevant fields;
- Minimum 10 years of highly relevant work experience.
