Description

CDP (formerly known as the Carbon Disclosure Project) is seeking a highly motivated, well-networked individual to head up its work in China. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious entrepreneurial leader who is inspired to achieve greater impact for CDP in China.

CDP works to transform the way the world does business to prevent dangerous climate change and protect our natural resources. CDP motivates companies and cities to report their environmental impacts and in 2015, 5,500 companies and over 300 cities used the CDP platform to report their climate change, water and forests data. CDP is head quartered in the UK with a presence in 12 other major business centers around the world. It is an independent not-for profit organization, funded by a combination of commercial income and government and philanthropic grants.
The successful candidate will have:

  • strong leadership skills;
  • excellent and proven public speaking skills;
  • extensive experience in either the financial, corporate, government or non-profit sectors;
  • significant managerial expertise;
  • extensive knowledge of environmental reporting from a business and investor perspective;
  • excellent awareness of Chinese policy developments on environmental issues and their implications for business;
  • sound understanding of global policy action on environmental issues and how China fits in with the current efforts towards a global agreement on climate change; and
  • the ability to operate effectively in both Chinese and English.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the China Director will manage the CDP China team and will be responsible for:

  • leading CDP’s operations in China;
  • growing CDP’s influence and effectiveness in China; 
  • formulating and executing a funding strategy to enable the above to take place;
  • maintaining and leveraging relationships with current CDP partners and sponsors;
  • developing robust strategic new partnerships with government agencies, data providers, exchanges, leading financial institutions, corporations, accounting bodies, foundations and academic institutes;
  • working closely with Chinese enterprises to drive environmental reporting and management;
  • raising CDP profile by hosting  and speaking at high level events;
  • leading projects in collaboration with Chinese government Ministries to improve disclosure by corporations and action on disclosure by investors;
  • proactive engagement with the peer NGO’s and other relevant stakeholders;
  • working effective with the wider global CDP team.

The successful candidate will work 5 days per week with occasional weekend or evening work where necessary. The position is based in Beijing and it is expected there will be substantial travel around China.
