he Carbon Farming Policy Branch has an opportunity for an experienced and motivated manager who is interested in working in a new and dynamic environment to lead the Methodology Development Team under the Carbon Farming Initiative (CFI). 

The CFI is a legislative scheme that will provide farmers, forest growers and other landholders with the opportunity to earn carbon credits for actions that reduce greenhouse gas emissions or increase the storage of carbon on their land. 

The Methodology Development Team is responsible for identifying potential abatement activities in the land sector, developing methods that can be implemented under the CFI to quantify emissions abatement that is to lead to carbon offset credits, and identifying and responding to emerging policy and stakeholder issues.

Applications are sought from candidates with a combination of technical and policy skills to manage the Team.

As a Director in the Methodology Development Team you will:
- Manage staff with diverse technical and policy skills relating to livestock, soil and vegetation systems, and guide their process towards developing CFI methodologies in these sectors. 
- Find solutions to emerging policy issues related to establishing methodologies under the CFI.
- Analyse, interpret and communicate technical information related to quantifying emissions abatement.
- Liaise with industry stakeholders and scientists on potential abatement activities and tools to quantify emission reductions.
- Manage relationships with the Department for Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, relating to method developments and research priorities for the CFI and Carbon Farming Futures.
- Respond to stakeholder and public enquiries on CFI methodology development, and assist in communication activities across the branch.
- Brief executives and ministers on methodology development and policy issues as required.
- Represent the Department at stakeholder meetings and conferences. 
- Oversee the procurement of expert technical advice and consultancy contracts. 

  
Eligibility 
This position is a security assessed position. The successful applicant will be required to undergo a security assessment to obtain a Baseline Security Clearance. 
  
Notes 
Qualification, experience or a keen interest in agriculture, land management and/or science would be an advantage.
