The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) works to turn environmental values into national priorities. To secure the environmental future of our planet, LCV’s mission is to advocate for sound environmental policies, to elect pro-environmental candidates who will adopt and implement such policies, and to provide the state LCVs with the resources and tools to accomplish and sustain their mission. LCV is seeking a Director of Strategic Partnerships to direct and manage the major gifts program and focus on securing leadership gifts in support of the LCV family of organizations. This is a full-time position starting immediately.

The Director of Strategic Partnerships is responsible for the direction and management of the Major Gifts Program ($1,000 plus donors) and the building of meaningful relationships with high-capacity donors. This includes the development and implementation of the annual major gifts program plan and budget, and supervision of the major gifts team responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major donors ($1,000+) for LCV, LCVEF, LCV Victory Fund, and LCV Action Fund. The Director of Strategic Partnerships will also be responsible for maintaining a specific portfolio of individual major donors ($10,000 plus) and prospects. In addition, the Director of Strategic Partnerships will work with the Director for Collaborative Fundraising and our state league partners to raise funds jointly from both national and state league donors and major donor prospects as part of a collaborative fundraising structure. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Work in concert with the SVP for Development to develop and implement an annual and long-term major donor cultivation and solicitation action plan, including methods of identifying new donors and implementing solicitation and stewardship strategies for current, lapsed, and prospective donors.
  • Manage a defined major donor portfolio that includes current, lapsed and prospective donors who give or have the potential to give at the $10,000 plus level.
  • Work with the SVP for Development and the LCV and LCV Education Fund Development Committees to develop fundraising goals and objectives to guide the next three year strategic plan and ensure the long-term financial health of the organization.
  • Oversee and direct donor/prospect research, the development of donor profiles and briefing documents, and maintenance and management of database profiles for major donors.
  • Work with LCV’s Development, Communications, and Program staff, along with state league partners, to develop compelling materials and scripts to maximize fundraising results.
  • Strategically engage staff leaders in cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major donor relationships.
  • Strategically engage LCV and LCVEF boards to help gain access to donors and prospects and to expand relationships with donors and prospects.
  • Work with state league partners and state league board partners to steward and cultivate joint major donors.
  • Serve as a training resource and mentor to the Major Gifts Team and the state league development staff and state leagues boards as appropriate.
  • Work with VP for Membership and Marketing to develop and implement strategies to upgrade and convert membership level donors to become major donors.
  • Ensure the Major Gifts Team maintains portfolio records and that all information is current with all necessary and pertinent information.
  • Work with Planned Giving Advisor to help identify planned giving prospects.
  • Prepare regular major gifts reports for the SVP for Development for inclusion in Development division reports to the Boards of Directors and the President.
  • Direct Major Gift Team planning meetings and trainings, fundraising and participate in organizational strategic planning meetings, as well as regular development, message, and program meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.
