Background

Rutland is the smallest county in the UK but has a rich tradition of heritage and culture.  The council has received funding to develop digital philanthropy, enabling people to financially support heritage and culture in the county through text and online giving. 

Objective

To plan and implement a programme that increases digital philanthropy in Rutland including text and online giving.  Evaluate the successes and challenges in a way that shares best practice with other local authorities and heritage providers for possible replication.

This project will give the successful graduate knowledge of Local Authority, fundraising and heritage working practices.  The project will result in a detailed knowledge of the planning and implementation of digital giving. 

Future employment potential and options

Previous change agents have gone onto permanent roles within Rutland County Council or into other sustainability roles across the UK

Output 1

Plan and research preferred providers of text and online giving services in conjunction with colleagues and stakeholders.

Output 2

Identify suitable locations for information of how to give digitally both on and offline – working closely with colleagues and Rutland County Councils Communications team.

Output 3

Implement the findings of Outputs 1 and 2, sourcing an appropriate provider and promoting digital philanthropy in Rutland.

Output 4

Evaluate the successes and challenges of the project in the form of a best practice report that could be shared with other councils and/or heritage providers.

Key Task 1

Produce project plan to research, implement and evaluate digital philanthropy in Rutland.

Key Task 2

Research appropriate providers of text and online giving services – making a recommendation to the Team manager: Culture and leisure at Rutland County Council

Key Task 3

Identify suitable locations for promoting the text and online giving which may include Rutland County Council website, online museum catalogues, through press releases, via heritage providers in Rutland and the county museum.

Key Task 4

Enter into a formal agreement with text/online giving provider (signed off by Team Manager: Culture and Leisure) and promote according to the results of key task 3.

Key Task 5

Produce an evaluation report detailing the successes and challenges of establishing a local digital giving programme.
