Digital and Online Marketing Intern

The Toledo Institute of Development and Environment (TIDE) is a leading Belizean NGO working to protect some of the most pristine coastal and marine ecosystems in Central America by putting local communities at the centre of our conservation efforts.

TIDE Tours is a subsidiary of TIDE and one of the premier eco-tour operators in Belize. We provide first-rate tours of Toledo’s natural and cultural sights. We benefit the local community by marketing eco-tourism in Toledo, using local guides, hotels and restaurants, and provide training in tour guiding, hospitality and other skills to local people. All proceeds from TIDE Tours go to support TIDE’s conservation and development work.

Ridge to Reef Expeditions (launched 2014) is a new “voluntourism” program, in which international participants gain hands-on, authentic conservation experience within the three protected areas managed by TIDE. The program is already making a real difference in this stunning corner of the Caribbean and providing rewarding, life-changing experiences for budding conservationists and volunteer travellers.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an online and digital marketing specialist to help develop our websites and marketing materials.

Roles and responsibilities:

-          Spend time with our research and education teams in the field so you can report on the amazing activities on our expeditions

-          Take part in tours to local attractions so you tell the world about this little-known piece of paradise

-          Work with the TIDE Tours manager to create visual content and copy for the newly redesigned TIDE Tours website

-          Work with the R2R Expeditions manager and web designers to develop the R2R website

-          Create brochures and other visual communications for TIDE Tours and R2R

-          Write blogs, articles and Facebook posts for R2R

-          Develop other marketing materials at the request of the TIDE Tours and R2R managers as required

Person specification:

The successful candidate will possess the following:

-          Artistic flare and demonstrated ability to produce attractive visual communications

-          The ability to relate to the target markets and understand how our expeditions / tours satisfy their aspirations

-          Sound writing skills

-          Excellent organizational skills and time management

-          Initiative, creativity and infectious enthusiasm

-          Willingness /ability to commit to a minimum of four months unpaid work

The following would also be desirable:

-          An undergraduate or post-graduate qualification in marketing, design, English or communications

-          Experience in web design and management

-          Experience in online marketing

-          A passion for the natural world and conservation

-          Experience living and working in the developing world

Terms and conditions:

This is a full-time (40+ hours per week) position for a period of four to six months, starting in February 2015. You will spend most of your time at TIDE’s headquarters in Punta Gorda, with occasional visits to our field sites. Accommodation at field sites will be provided.
