Development Officer, Western Region

The Student Conservation Association (SCA), America’s #1 conservation service organization seeks a Development Officer on our Advancement team based in our Oakland, CA office.  Position is responsible for implementing SCA’s major donor program to support national, regional and urban programs and manages a portfolio primarily consisting of individual major donors (85%) as well as some foundations (15%).

Primary Responsibilities:

• Prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship for annual giving as well as national capital campaign currently underway
• Lead all major gift fundraising activities in California and the Southwest in collaboration with national and regional staff and volunteer leadership
• Work with national and regional staff to develop short and long-term fundraising strategies, objectives and priorities for SCA’s annual giving and special projects
• Manage a portfolio of 100-150 leadership donors and prospects
• Work with current and identify new volunteer leaders in the region to engage them as donors and volunteer solicitors to maximize regional fundraising

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of direct major gift and/or related experience required.  Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Successful track record in major gift and/or related solicitation experience required
• Excellent verbal and written presentation skills necessary
• Exceptional interpersonal skills a must
• Knowledge of or ability to learn Raisers Edge Software (or comparable fundraising software) and other business-related presentation software required
• Secure knowledge of MSOffice required
• Experience in a non-profit environment highly preferred
• Ability to work in a team environment with national and regional staff necessary
• Willingness to travel extensively (40-50%) within the region and nationally on occasion
• Must have valid driver’s license and meet SCA’s MVR standards
