Description

Development Officer Volunteer

The Development Officer Volunteer is a critical role at Ya'axché Conservation Trust. You will work as part of a small development team to help manage and strengthen fundraising for our programs in line with our Fundraising Strategy. This is an unpaid position. Joining us will give you the opportunity to develop a career in international fundraising. You will have the chance to share your skills, develop your knowledge and be part of a dynamic and dedicated team of people commited to managing and conserving some of Central America's key rainforest habitats and species, in partnership with local communities.

This role involves:

  • Researching funding opportunities
  • Developing project concepts and proposals with our conservation and community livelihoods teams 
  • Maintaining relationships with donors 
  • Maintaining funding records
  • Researching and helping to develop novel and innovative sustainable funding ideas

Duration of placement

Minimum 6 months commitment

Desired qualifications

Environmental or social science degree (or equivalent)

Skills and experience

Excellent written and spoken English essential
Good working skills in Microsoft Word and Excel
Experience in project development, grant writing and fundraising
Experience working with communities in developing countries
Strong cultural sensitivity.

Volunteer personal expenses

The volunteer is expected to arrange and pay for:

  • Transportation to Punta Gorda, Belize, including international airfare
  • Food, personal expenses, in-country travel, rent (if living in Punta Gorda where our head office is based, instead of the field station)
