Development Intern

SeaWeb, an international, nonprofit, communications organization dedicated to using the science of communication to fundamentally shift the way people interact with the ocean, seeks an Intern to be based in the Washington, D.C. or San Francisco, CA office. The Intern will provide fundraising and development support to the organization’s development team.

This is an unpaid internship. It is an exciting opportunity for someone who is dedicated to improving ocean conservation and gaining experience working for a non-profit organization. Hours are flexible to accommodate class schedule or other commitments. We request a minimum commitment of 10 hours a week (flexible), and prefer someone who can work between the hours of 9:30 am and 5:30 pm.

Responsibilities:

Fundraising Organization/Administrative Projects (50% of time):

  • Maintain the fundraising folder on our online server so that SeaWeb staff can access current and past proposals and reports for all of our grants.
  • Ensure that all of our grant files are consistent on the server, in the hard files and on Big Contacts and continue to update.
  • Ensure that all correspondence regarding grants and foundations is reflected in the hard files and Big Contacts and continue to update.
  • Assist with updating grant tracking documents.
  • Maintain major donor contact lists.
  • Assist with Combined Federal Campaign and EarthShare applications and submission of materials.
  • Prepare materials for Board meetings.
  • Craft and mail thank you letters to Foundations and individual donors

Grant Assistance (30% of time):

  • Assist with the coordination, editing and submittal of some LOIs and Proposals.
  • Assist with researching prospective funders (individual and foundation)

Events/Focused Projects (20% of time):

  • Assist with preparation for and attendance of Combined Federal Campaign and EarthShare events.
  • Assist with coordination of fundraising events for major donors.
  • Assist with specialized projects such as appeal mailings, programmatic update mailings, etc.

Other projects may be assigned.

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • Detail oriented and highly organized.
  • Solid communication and writing skills.
  • Some experience with fundraising is desired.
  • Reliability.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage time well.
  • Commitment to environmental issues.
  • A high school diploma is required.
