Born Free USA seeks a highly motivated individual with a sincere commitment to animal welfare to fill the role of a Development Associate. Born Free USA is a mid-sized national nonprofit organization committed to keeping wildlife in the wild. More information about Born Free USA and our work can be found elsewhere on this site. This position is full time and located in Sacramento, CA. The Development Associate works closely with staff members on the East Coast, including another Development Associate, and answers directly to the Executive Vice President. Job responsibilities include:

  • Donor database management (maintenance, updates, imports, reporting).
  • Prepare gift acknowledgements and fulfill membership and sponsorship packets.
  • Take phone calls from donors, answer questions and fulfill requests.
  • Prepare reports, mailings and acknowledgments required to support ongoing fundraising activities.
  • Work with accountants to create reports to meet their needs.
  • Develop and manage corporate partnerships.
  • Maintain strong relationships with high-net-worth donors.
  • Assist in the management of VIP and Legacy Circle activities.
  • Track estate and planned gifts. Maintain files of received and expected gifts.
  • Complete annual individual State Charitable Registration renewals.
  • Create and oversee the timely submission of reports and documents to public and private funders.
  • Manage the relationship with direct mail processing house and ensure timely and accurate relay of information and billing.
  • Produce and maintain internal development status reports.
  • Assist in planning and coordination of all special event functions and other fundraising appeals, including a large Sacramento Gala in September 2012.
  • Manage social networking donation sites and other online fundraising sites.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy with data entry.
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with a donor database management system required. Donor Perfect preferred.
  • Comfortable working in a team environment.
  • Event planning experience required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Articulate and able to communicate effectively.
  • Commitment to the mission of Born Free USA.
  • Ability to handle multiple ongoing projects and complete tasks within a deadline.
  • Prior fundraising experience, 2-4 years preferred.
