The Amazon Conservation Association is looking for a Development and Communications Associate for its Washington, DC officeto support fundraising and communications efforts in its Washington, DC office. The position will report to the Executive Director, and also work closely with the Outreach Manager and interns.

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree, at least 2-3 years of relevant work experience, and excellent oral, written, and organizational skills. Fluency in Spanish is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Primary duties and responsibilities include:

  • Provide direct support to the implementation of the Annual Development Plan, coordinating with the Executive Director to achieve goals
  • Manage the direct mail program,
  • Develops content and coordinates activity for social-media platforms, website, and e-newsletters.
  • Support the Executive Director on major donor stewardship and solicitation
  • Lead production of the annual report
  • Respond to all general inquiries via phone or email
  • Data entry (in Salesforce)
    • Maintain up to date, accurate entries in data base
    • Process online and check donations
    • Generate thank you notes to donors
    • Prepare and monitor metrics to evaluate fundraising success
    • Run reports
  • Assist in mailings, preparation of materials for donor visits
  • Serve as the Executive Director’s staff liaison to the Board of Directors
    • Provide logistical support for Board meeting
    • Maintain and update all board materials and correspondence
    • Make travel arrangements as necessary
  • Support preparation for special events
  • Support outreach efforts for biological stations
  • Coordinate participation on Charity Navigator, Guidestar, GreatNonprofits, CFC, etc
  • Assist in coordination of internship program, manage interns as necessary
  • Provide administrative support to other areas as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, and at least 2-3 years of work experience in nonprofit development or communications
  • Demonstrated knowledge of MS Office suite; experience with donor database software such as Salesforce preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Knowledge of multiple forms of media and branding
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work well in a team and take initiative
  • Common sense, flexibility, and the ability to exercise independent judgment
  • Interest in and knowledge of biodiversity conservation, Amazon region and sustainable livelihoods strongly preferred
  • Fluency in Spanish strongly preferred, with strong speaking and writing skills in both English and Spanish
