Earthjustice currently has an opening for a Development/Major Gifts Assistant. This position works under the supervision of the Vice President for Development and supports both the VP in her fundraising and management responsibilities as well as providing administrative support for the Major Gifts team.

The successful candidate must be a self-starter who is able to work both collaboratively and independently and possesses strong interpersonal skills. The position requires excellent writing and analytical skills, and the ability to think creatively. The MG Assistant must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and be detail-oriented.

This position performs a variety of administrative tasks, including travel arrangements and meeting logistics and scheduling, as well as some writing assignments including drafting correspondence and reports, etc. It requires frequent interaction with staff members within the organization; as well as board members and donors.

Key responsibilities will include:
• Coordinate and schedule meetings
• Support the VP’s fundraising efforts including scheduling meetings, making travel arrangements, drafting briefings, and updating donor records
• Draft and proofread donor and board correspondence, reports, and proposals
• Prepare queries and reports from the donor database for cultivation, stewardship, solicitation, event and tracking purposes.
• Assist with the preparation of major donor mailings and acknowledgements.

Ideal candidates will have:
• A minimum of two years’ experience in Development (fundraising) or executive setting preferred.
• Excellent organizational skills, including ability to handle multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and prioritize assignments.
• Superior communication skills, including demonstrated successful writing.
• Meticulous attention to detail including excellent proofreading skills.
• Professional, positive, and approachable attitude. Ability to work and communicate with a diverse group of people, including board of directors, donors, volunteers, the public and staff.
• Solid knowledge of MS Office. Database management skills required with ability to produce reports and to use advanced functions, including sophisticated knowledge of the Internet. Experience with Powerpoint, Quark, or other desktop publishing programs desirable.
• Background and/or interest in environmental and conservation issues desirable.
