Overview:

The AYCC is a coalition of over 20 youth -focused and youth-run organisations from across Australia, the membership of these organisations is well over 200,000. The AYCC is committed to uniting youth organizations across Australia, and around the world, to build a generation-wide movement to prevent climate disaster. We inspire, educate, empower and mobilise young Australians to take action on climate change whether that be in their homes, schools, universities, work places or as advocactes on the national and international stage. We also provide a space for our member groups to coordinate, communicate and network with each other, and run shared projects and campaigns.

During 2008 we will be coordinating a series of exciting, innovative and effective campaigns to engage young people, business, government and the general public on the urgency of the climate crisis and the important issues surrounding climate policy this year. In preparation we are creating a dynamic Communications team who will work closely with our project coordinators to develop campaign/conference branding and materials, create engaging and inspiring viral videos, document our achievements on film and photography, update and moderate content on our community website, and communicate our programs, events, activities and messaging with our membership and to the media via press releases and a bi-monthly youth climate movement newsletter.

Position Description - Designer:

Our talented designer will ensure AYCC’s message inspires, informs and mobilises audiences in a consistent and dynamic manner reflecting of our youthful identity, energy, and campaign objectives. We are looking for a creative senior designer who can work with our Communications Coordinator to take projects from concept to completion across media ranging from short videos to t-shirts, from annual reports to web blogs. This position will also ensure AYCC’s materials adopt a consistent look and feel as the Senior Designer will work closely with the Communications Coordinator to develop and implement our existing Style Guide.

In this role you will be responsible for:
• Design micro-sites, interactive flash animations, online advertising materials, email newsletters and other online material. Create innovative print materials such as flyers, postcards, posters, brochures and print advertisements
• Design fundraising oriented materials, such as letters to supporters, newsletters, event invitations, and our Annual Report
• Identity Delivery - Deliver an overall look and feel for AYCC materials in keeping with our identity and communications strategies

To be successful in this role you will have:
• Excellent technical print design abilities, including a mastery of Adobe Indesign, Illustrator, Photoshop or equivalent
• Excellent online design capabilities including experience of designing micro-sites, rich media banner ads and HTML newsletters
• Excellent verbal communications skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to manage a heavy work load
• Experience managing and working with design contractors
• Print production knowledge and experience
• Commitment to the aims and values of AYCC
• Mastery of programs such as Dreamweaver and Macromedia Flash (including action scripting)
• Video editing skills, including Final Cut, Premier and Motion Graphics
• Experience in graphics/visuals for environment or social change campaigning

A portfolio consisting of both previous work experience and multiple examples (currently active examples if possible) of website and graphic designs that example all key areas (or more if available) is essential.
