juwi solar Inc. (JSI) based in Boulder, Colorado, and majority-owned by Germany-based juwi Holding AG is a developer and turnkey EPC contractor of solar power plants throughout North America.  JSI’s main focus is the development, construction and operation of utility-scale power plants (1MW or larger).

JSI has established an aggressive target for bringing solar power on line over the next several years and is looking to fill the Design Engineer position to support the company’s growth.  The Design Engineer will be responsible for the physical design of the installation for JSI projects; support of business development with physical layouts and technical summaries; participate in support of technical review and management of equipment and materials for project implementation.  The position will be based in JSI’s Boulder, CO office and will report to the Senior Electrical Engineer.

Principal Position Description:

  • Gain in-depth understanding of JSI’s major system components with particular emphasis on the modules, racking, cabling and inverters; support JSI’s industry leading position as a designer and builder of the most technologically advanced and cost effective PV projects.
  • Work with JSI’s procurement group on technical issues with equipment suppliers, including supporting the drafting and creation of the scope of work.
  • Coordinate and maintain clear communication with project management groups for design schedules and project technical requirements.
  • Provide engineering drawings and confirm designs are suitable and cost effective for field installation, including any requested field changes; analyze and suggest areas of ongoing system design improvement and optimizations.
  • Provide technical support as required for inter-connection studies, applications, and agreements with all appropriate utilities, regulators and third parties.
  • Support the preparation of the RFP process for subcontractors and equipment suppliers.
  • Support project permitting requirements with the appropriate drawings, verifying that applicable codes are being used for the design.
  • Become familiar with all project engineering and design documents standards.
  • Become familiar with national building and construction codes including NEC, IEEE 1547, UL 1741 and IBC codes.
  • Plan and perform design reviews per in-house engineering procedures.
  • Provide technical responses to Requests for Information (RFI’s) from the construction team.
  • Interface with outside consultants including writing scopes for civil, geotechnical and structural engineering for project sites.
  • Implement lessons learned from completed projects to optimize designs for future projects.
  • Provide technical support for the review of new equipment and systems development for new design standards.
  • Provide updates as needed to input progress on the project plan.

Job Opportunity – Design Engineer

  • Perform design functions to produce drawings to be included in business development proposals, interconnection requests, permitting packages and construction packages.
  • Ensure documentation is complete for all areas of responsibility.

Position Requirements:

  • Accredited university degree (engineering required).
  • Familiarity with the National Electrical Code and National Electrical Safety Code.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in AutoCad (Version 2007 or newer).
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Perform project cost/benefits analyses.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, excellent communication both orally and in writing.
  • Autonomous: take initiative and organize work in an independent manner.
  • Team management, team player, stress-resistant; some project related travel is expected.
