The mission of the International Research Institute for Climate and Society (IRI) is enhance society's capability to understand, anticipate and manage the impacts of seasonal climate fluctuations, in order to improve human welfare and the environment, especially in Africa, Asia, and Latin America and the Caribbean. The candidate will bring significant international and multicultural experience, expertise, and leadership in institutional and project partnership development, resource mobilization, and awareness-raising activities. The Deputy Director for Humanitarian and International Development engagement (DD-HI) acts with high degree of independence on behalf of the Director to develop strategic partnerships and resourcing opportunities to advance IRI's mission. The DD-HI reports directly to the Director, and works closely with The Earth Institute Development staff and special consultants, funding agencies and donors for the advancement of major humanitarian and international development programs and projects, primarily in Africa, Asia, and Latin America and the Caribbean.

The DD-HI will be a member of the Management Team and, as such, play a vital role in the overall management of the Institute, including assisting the Director in various administrative functions and in the internal management of the Institute. The Deputy Director-HI will work in close coordination with the IRI Director to coordinate, plan and prioritize potential humanitarian and international development work with the researchers within the International Research Institute for Climate and Society. As such, he/she will serve as an important intermediary with the IRI Director and senior staff of the Institute in planning and executing programs. This position closely coordinates IRI management with administrative leaders of LDEO, Columbia University and funding providers such as: the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and the World Bank. The DD-HI will also help develop and effect procedures with LDEO and Columbia administration to advance the goals of IRI development and application of useful climate information. The DD-HI will be responsible for resource allocation as determined by the Director

Given the importance of connecting IRI's strategic vision across a broad range of funding and research partners, it will be important for the DD-HI to work closely with Science Theme Leaders in planning, monitoring, and evaluating output and in stimulating ideas within the IRI. The DD will play a key role in synthesizing and communicating research findings to key agencies and stakeholders, and will work closely with the IRI Communications Team in this effort.  APPLY HERE
