Responsibilities
Under the overall supervision and guidance of the Director, the incumbent formulates and manages the implementation of the work programme of the Climate Change Support Team, ensuring timely delivery of outputs, and coordinates work both within the Team and with other organizations of the UN system, as appropriate. In particular, the Deputy Director: Provides advice on the development of a strategic vision and policy with respect to Climate Change for the Secretary-General; Identifies strategic opportunities for the Secretary-General’s involvement in the negotiations, implementation and global public involvement track on Climate Change issues; Leads, guides and manages CCST staff in delivering the full work programme assigned to the Team, and fosters teamwork and communication within the Team; Acts as officer-in-charge when the Director is unavailable; Identifies key strategic issues of concern related to Climate Change, and coordinates the preparation of reports for presentation to high-level international meetings; Participates in international, regional or other meetings and provides substantive expertise on Climate Change; Liaises with Member States (Ministers, Permanent Representatives and other high-level officials), representatives of civil society, academia and the private sector, as well as senior UN system colleagues on issues related to Climate Change, conveying the Secretary-General’s views and advice or guidance, as appropriate; Encourages the development of partnerships and initiatives by relevant stakeholders, and directs efforts to mobilize distinguished individuals to develop and support such initiatives and partnerships; Assists in fund-raising efforts from interested Member States as well as from private sector sources in support of the work of the Team and the Secretary-General’s broader efforts on Climate Change.

Competencies
