Description

SANBI requires a highly motivated and energetic individual to strengthen the interface between science and policy through providing science-based policy advice in the biodiversity sector; to participate in Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD)-related work; to support SANBI’s work on ecosystem-based adaptation to climate change; and to work with relevant colleagues in SANBI and partner organisations to mainstream biodiversity in policy and legislation in other sectors.

The successful candidate must have a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline; well-developed analytical and conceptual ability; knowledge of the policy and legislative environment in the biodiversity sector in South Africa; an understanding of the broader South African policy environment and development challenges; the ability to gather, synthesise and distil information quickly from a wide range of sources; excellent writing, presentation and communication skills, including the ability to convey complex concepts to non-specialist audiences; the ability to build working relationships with a wide range of colleagues and partner organisations, and to work collaboratively; and the ability to juggle work on a number of diverse projects simultaneously. This must all be enhanced by at least 5 years relevant work experience; willingness and ability to travel; computer literacy (MS Office); and a valid (unendorsed) Code B driver’s license plus at least one year’s driving experience.
