Deputy Director and Chief of Party, WCS South Sudan Program
Key Responsibilities This is a full-time position based in South Sudan responsible for coordinating and supporting day to day management and administration of the WCS South Sudan Program activities, including undertaking the role of Chief of Party for the Boma-Jonglei-Equatoria Landscape (BJEL) program. The BJEL program, which is funded by USAID and WCS and implemented in cooperation with the Government of the Republic of South Sudan, focuses on support for wildlife law enforcement and protected area management in the landscape, park infrastructure construction, training and capacity building for Government and community partners, wildlife and tourism policy and laws development, community based conservation-security partnerships, applied research and land-use planning, livelihoods projects, conservation communications, and other key program elements. Duties include coordination of project activities and production of project outputs, coordinating the work of WCS staff and consultants, preparation of work plans and progress reports, and liaising with Government, donors, and other conservation partners. The position will be based out of the WCS South Sudan Country Program office in Juba. The Deputy Director/COP works closely with and reports to the WCS South Sudan Program Director.
Qualifications The desired qualifications for this position are a PhD or Master's degree in conservation, natural resource management, or related field, at least 5 years of experience working on conservation and protected area management issues in Africa in collaboration with Government agencies, project management and administration experience, including proposal writing, grant management, administration, and reporting, proven ability to work well in a team in multi-cultural situations and under difficult field conditions. Fluency in written and spoken English required.
