Description

The High Weald has a long association with deer and their management for centuries has left a valued cultural legacy which can be seen in the landscape today. However high deer numbers are negatively impacting on the rare wildlife of our ancient woods, hedges, and meadows and affecting efforts to establish trees to mitigate the impacts of climate change. Farmer’s crops are also being damaged and road accidents involving deer are increasing.

As Deer Co-ordinator you will be responsible for providing support and advice to landowners, managers, and the wider community on wild deer, sharing best practice in deer management and facilitating collaborative management.

The role offers a rare opportunity to work with a small, friendly team at the forefront of developing innovative approaches to protected landscape management.

For an informal discussion, please contact Gerry Sherwin, AONB Business Manager on 01424 723014.
