DC Urban Tree House Program Assistant

The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is seeking an experienced, quality oriented environmental educator to lead outreach and education programs at the DC Urban Tree House this summer.  Coordinate the summer DC Urban Treehouse program, implement educational and service projects in the community, recruit students and organizations and maintain relationships in the community.  The DC Urban Tree House provides free environmental education lessons to DC youth ages 5-18 in Anacostia Park .  Over a typical summer 1000 young people participate in activities that teach them about DC’s natural spaces.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Coordinate the summer program at the DC Urban Tree House in Anacostia Park and assist with maintaining the    Urban Tree House site and materials as an environmental education resource center for community educators, program partners, and students.
• Plan and deliver curriculum focusing on environmental education and conservation service learning for up to 1,000 elementary through high school students in the DC area over the summer.
• Recruit Groups for Education Sessions
• Supervision of up to 3 seasonal program interns and volunteers at the Urban Tree House.
• Assist SCA staff with planning and delivery of large scale community service projects
• Maintain partnerships with schools, community organizations, and local government agencies in the DC area.
• Work closely with the DC Program Manager to develop, coordinate and lead youth in outdoor recreation, environmental education and community service activities.
• Complete required program reporting and documentation
• Ensure compliance with all SCA Risk Management policies & procedures
• Manage budget and necessary purchasing for Urban Tree House

Position Location:
The position will primarily based at SCA’s Field Office by Navy Yard with the majority of programming in Anacostia Park and field sites throughout DC.
