Description
Job Title:         DC Chapter Community Outreach Coordinator
 
Chapter:         DC
 
Reports To:    Chapter Chair and Designated Volunteer Leaders
 
Context:          Works with Chapter Leadership and volunteers on local community programs and to recruit residents for local outreach activities.
 
Scope:           The Community Program Coordinator assists in education efforts of area residents regarding community environmental risks and solutions. Works closely with the appropriate chapter volunteer leaders to mobilize members of the local community, recruit environmental supporters to participate in community outreach teams, and train community residents to become community outreach team leaders.
 
Job Activities:
 
1.         Educates community team members and the general public about environmental community risks and solutions.
 
2.         Mobilizes community members to become involved in education outreach in the local community regarding environmental community risks and solutions.
 
3.         Assists the appropriate staff and volunteer leaders with planning and implementation of assigned programs, including coordinating phone banks, overseeing volunteer door-to-door outreach, handling lists and databases of campaign activists and supporters, and making arrangements for events and activities.
 
4.         Works with volunteer leaders and other interest groups to identify, recruit and organize volunteers to support conservation campaigns.
 
5.         Monitors developments affecting conservation issues at the community and Metro DC regional levels, and keeps volunteer leadership apprised.
 
6.         Collaborates with volunteer leaders to make presentations to community and governmental bodies regarding chapter conservation efforts.  Writes newsletters, flyers, etc. to keep the Club membership and the general public informed of Chapter and regional campaign activities.  
 
7.         Provides program support as needed, including handling phone inquiries, administrative support such as mailings and volunteer database maintenance.
 
8.         Performs miscellaneous duties as directed.
 
 
Knowledge & Skills:
 
--   Experience with at least one community organizing or mobilizing project.
 
--   Able to travel as needed.  Valid driver’s license, satisfactory driving record, and proof of auto insurance required.
 
--   Ability to interact positively with community residents, volunteers, staff and the public.
 
--    Strong oral and written communication skills.
 
--   Demonstrated interest in the environment or related public interest issues.
 
--   Ability to clearly explain complex issues and effectively communicate them to community residents.
 
--   Proficient with Word processing and Spreadsheet applications.
